This working paper explores an integrative perspective of diversity, combining demographic, cognitive and structural attributes into a single Diversity Index. It takes a case study approach in applying the index to board of director and top management team diversity in the top five European pharmaceutical firms between 2005 and 2008 and in assessing the relationship of diversity to strategic and operational performance.
